We love working with artists and institutions to bring their ideas to life, expertly handling every stage of the process. Learn more about mold making, wax working, metal casting, fabrication, metal finishing and more below.

MOLD MAKING

Any object can be transposed into metal or alternative materials through the mold making process. At Sincere we blend old and new techniques, custom tailored to meet the intricacies of each piece. We consider the material, scale, shape, and texture of the artwork, then choose the proper molding material and approach. This ensures a flawless mold, capable of producing multiple castings, while capturing and preserving every minute detail of the original. We are experienced in molding objects of any size, from tiny to monumental, and can create molds in our facility or on site.

Wax Working

As the last hands-on process before a piece begins its transition into metal, wax working is paramount to attaining a high quality casting. Using the rubber mold created off the initial sculpture, we pour a wax replica, then meticulously look over the entire surface, chasing back any seams and imperfections by hand. The client is encouraged to come in to make any last minute modifications and sign off on the wax moving forward. This approach guarantees the wax pattern perfectly reflects every detail of the original artwork. We then use our years of experience to properly add gates and vents, which will ultimately act as pathways for the metal to travel and fill the piece. This decision making process is integral to ensuring a superior casting, and must take into consideration all the intricacies of each unique piece.

Metal Casting

Once the wax pattern is complete it moves to ceramic shell where a new mold is dipped up in layers over the course of several days. Using our flash fire kiln, we melt out the wax and the ceramic shell mold is vitrified (fired). Hot metal is poured into those molds, and once cool the shell is broken off to reveal the casting. Our casting facility at Sincere is fully equipped to meet all of your non-ferrous casting needs including: silicon bronze, other bronze/brass alloys, copper, and aluminum. We also offer cast iron and ductile iron poured off site.

Metal Chasing / finishing

After the piece is cast, it's almost halfway done! Ceramic shell is chipped off, gates and vents are removed and tooled down to disappear. Larger work is cast in pieces and must be welded back together. Our expert metal workers fit, weld and meticulously refinish the surface. With an acute attention to detail we blend any signs of the casting process to perfectly match the original contour and texture.

Patination

Once all metal finishing is complete, the piece is cleaned and prepped for patina. The patina is a chemical reaction with the surface of the metal resulting in a variety of colors and patterns. This effect is created with diluted acids, applied in different styles and combinations, to create a multitude of tones, hues, and shades. Patinas will occur naturally on the metal reacting with the atmosphere if left bare; this is why all patinas are sealed with wax or lacquer to prevent further oxidation and preserve the beautiful finish.

Fabrication

Sincere’s fabrication is the perfect amalgamation of technical skill and artistic ability. The level of quality we offer is unrivaled by other industrial fabrication shops. Whether working from plans or designing from your dreams, you won’t be disappointed with our product. We can fabricate in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and bronze. Working directly with clients, designers, and project managers, and alongside engineers and architects, we guarantee your project not only looks amazing, it is also built to last.

Metal finishes

We provide a variety of surface finishes for each type of metal. From tints, paints, and lacquers, to patina, chrome, and powder coat, we will work with your specifications or help find the best finishing solution for your project. For any desired surface treatment we do not offer, we collaborate with local vendors to produce the best possible result.
